The new cogeneration plant of the Tolmezzo paper mill is up and running

In the Mosaico paper mill that produces envelope, tissue, and food papers, the new cogeneration plant is now operational and leading to lower emissions and better energy efficiency.

The new cogeneration plant at the Tolmezzo paper mill is a complete energy station: a combined cogeneration cycle, made up of a gas turbine, a steam generator – which recovers the heat from the gas turbine fumes, increasing its energy thanks to the post-combustion – and by a steam turbine, in which the steam produced, at high pressure and temperature, is expanded to produce further electricity and, eventually, delivered to the process to power the PM1, the PM3, and the cellulose machinery.

The plant was designed, built, and powered up thanks to the expertise of the Burgo Group T&I division, jointly with the skills of the site technicians; by reaching the standards of high-performance plants set by the Energy Services Manager (GSE), the system will allow Burgo Energia to strengthen the operation in the energy and environmental markets.
The machines are equipped with the most up-to-date emission control and reduction systems to comply with the strict environmental limits set by Regione Friuli Venezia Giulia, according to the best available techniques (BAT) in the field.
